Hands in Clay
Hands in Clay Jamaica Limited is a company with a progressive vision. What sets the Jamaican entity apart from its competitors is the ethos of its Creative Director, Robert Campbell. Campbell not only aims to expand his company to distribute his unique pieces globally, but also to provide a service which facilitates the development of other companies which offer products in the same niche market, particularly with regards to production procedures and product development. Through this approach, Campbell hopes to see the formation of alliances for the production and distribution of Caribbean Art.
Hands in Clay is not just about business, however. As Campbell says, “It is my mission to touch the lives of people from all walks of life by telling our story through art.” This storytelling is no longer limited to the medium of pottery. The brand has expanded its offerings to include small-scale paintings, papier-mâché, sculpture and ceramics particularly for visitors who wish to carry these creative expressions home with them. These collector’s items, as well as examples of the signature work which has made Hands in Clay a respected craft brand in Jamaica, will be on offer at Design Caribbean at Calabash 2014.
Campbell is in high anticipation of Design Caribbean at Calabash 2014. Hands in Clay first exhibited internationally at Caribbean Export’s Caribbean Gift and Craft Trade Show in 2000. Since then, he has also been a part of Design Caribbean’s previous stagings. Through experiences such as Design Caribbean, Campbell recognized the demand for more diverse offerings. These new products retail under the name Khadabra: The Magical Experience.
