REECII
Reecii products are handmade by artisans in small factories and in homes on the sister islands of St. Kitts and Nevis. The products are designed to challenge the status quo. The company supports tough social issues such as gang violence, HIV prevention, gender inequality, bullying and substance abuse and provides jobs for many single women and marginalized males, who would not otherwise be able to earn a living.
All pieces are meticulously hand crafted by skilled artisans which ensures that no two designs are ever alike. The purses are created from recycled candy wrappers, magazines and other materials which are cut, folded and woven together into the form of the purses that you see.
The weaving creates a tight chain that locks each piece of paper to one another. The purses are specially laminated to protect them from easy tear and spillage. Reecii also carry an array of purses made from natural materials such as common grass, straw, rattan, mending, screw pine and megol. Each purse is lined with leather and recycled paper.
Leroy Willett, president of Reecii states “Our projects are supported by our art… when you own one of our pieces it helps the environment, fights poverty, reduces gang violence and helps us sustain our customs and traditions”.
