Quite simply Very Vanita is art made practical.  Artist Vanita Commissiong uses her vibrant painted depictions of scenes of traditional Caribbean life that simultaneously pay homage to her native Barbados and transfers them on to a variety of items, catering to the needs of a modern person in any country.

Although Comissiong has been practising her craft as an artist for over 20 years, she launched the brand and its signature aesthetic in 2010, eight years after establishing a chain of small art galleries to promote her work. During her tenure as an art retailer, she was inspired to create distinctly Barbadian, practical items that could satisfy the demands of locals and tourists alike.  Since then, the eye-catching offerings have become a popular option for gifts and souvenirs.  There is an undeniably Caribbean feel to her pieces which all originate from her original acrylic paintings on canvas.

This transition from canvas to fabric required an innovative marriage of traditional art and digital technology. The result was electronically-printed, high-quality and durable fabrics that could be manipulated into beach bags, scarves, slip covers, and tea towels in addition to the plethora of new items which are added each season.
